Troubleshooting and Help!

If you run into any problems, or need help when setting up the Imp Mini, message me on Facebook for the fastest response! I'm more than happy to assist in any way I can! You can also email me at Smoghog@gmail.com or use the contact form below!

Setting up the Imp Mini

Universal Gcode Sender (platform) Users

Make sure that you are using a current version of UGS first! You will need to configure UGS Platform to use the shortcuts that match the pendant output, but this is a very easy process. There are two options for setting your shortcuts, depending on your preference:

Option 1: You can download the Imp Pendant shortcut profile from here. In UGS Platform, go to Tools > Options, then click 'Import' at the bottom. Direct the dialog box to the zip file you downloaded, make sure the 'keymaps' field is checked, and click 'ok'. This will import the keymap profile 'ImpPendant', which you can now select on the keymap screen as your default profile. Make sure you select the Imp Pendant set in your Keymap screen instead of the Netbeans profile. There have been some reports that UGS Platform crashes when importing a profile, but the import still completes just fine in most of these cases, so check after reloading that the profile is there and that all of the below shortcuts are set.

Option 2: If you would rather set the shortcuts yourself in your existing profile rather than adding an additional profile, you can use the shortcut diagrams below to set the necessary fields manually.

CONTINUOUS JOGGING NOTE: Because of how UGS stacks up keyboard inputs in its queue and continues to execute them until they are done, it is very easy for the gantry to 'run away' if you hold a key down for continuous jogging. If you want to use continuous jogging in UGS, I recommend starting with a very small step value, such as 1mm (.039 inches) and working up gradually until you find a sweet spot where your machine moves at full speed but still stops when you let off of the button. This will vary from one machine, computer and controller to another. If your steps are too large, the machine can travel quite a bit further after you release the button, creating unsafe conditions. This is a known issue in UGS, and is the same when using a standard keyboard. Please be very careful with continuous jogging in UGS, or use step jogging only.

UCCNC Users

Make sure that you can jog with your directional arrows in UCCNC before attempting to use the Imp Pendant. If you are unable to, then the pendant will not work, either, and you need to find the problem in your settings and enable keyboard jogging before you set up the Imp Mini. UCCNC is incredibly easy to configure since numerical codes can be used for all of the functions and hotkeys. To get started, go to Configuration > I/O Trigger > Hotkeys. Set all of the Keycodes and Functions in a column to match the example photo below, then save/apply your settings. That's it! The step button will toggle step/continuous mode (you must be in one of these modes to use the pendant, otherwise there will be no response.

PicSender Users

I'm happy to say that no configuration is required to use the PicSender variant of the Imp Mini! All of the shortcuts match the program defaults for version 3.6.0 or newer. I would like to give a very special thanks to John Champlain at PicEngrave for taking the time to create new shortcuts for the additional functions on the Imp, and helping me during the design process!

UGS Classic Edition Users

Like the PicSender edition, no configuration is required to use the UGS Classic Edition. However, you must ensure that you are on build 1472 (November 15, 2020) or newer, or the Zero Axis key will not work (it was disabled for a time, but re-enabled in that build edition). There are fewer hotkeys in UGS Classic, and so this Imp Pendant has less functionality than its brothers. It is recommended to use UGS Platform and the corresponding model pendant to enjoy maximum performance.

This is a known issue in UGS, and is the same when using a standard keyboard. Please be very careful with continuous jogging in UGS, or use step jogging only.

OpenBuilds Control Users

Make sure you are on a recent version of OpenBuilds CONTROL that has customizable keyboard shortucts, and that your shortcuts match the default options pictured below, and you should be good to go!

Troubleshooting and Warnings

While there is currently no official warranty, per se, I do stand by my product and aim to make sure that it works well for everyone. If you have any trouble with your pendant during standard operation, please reach out to me and I'll be happy to assist or replace as necessary. That being said, if you modify the pendant physically, or attempt to load alternate software on the Arduino, I will be unable to provide replacement parts or hardware, but I will do my best to help fix it anyways!

As with any control unit or keyboard on any operating system, there is always the possibility of double inputs on the part of the key input delay or holding the button down for too long. Please be careful when using the pendant to avoid running your gantry into a wall or your waste board. This is especially true if you are using continuous jogging!

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damages or injuries that occur when using the imp pendant with your machine. Please exercise caution and common sense at all times when working with machinery and tools. Imp Pendant hotkeys can have unpredictable effects in other programs, and should only be used in the intended sender software.
